Tourism is one of Victoria’s top growth industries and a key economic driver across our state.
The visitor economy delivers over $25 billion to the Victorian economy, and represents 6 per cent of our Gross State Product. The tourism and events sectors employ over 214,500 Victorians in our industry – that’s 7 per cent of the state’s workforce.
While our industry is performing strongly, simply maintaining the status quo risks stagnating our growth. Without action and Government investment, Victoria risks losing ground and missing the opportunity to capitalise on an industry that is forecast to grow to $151 billion across Australia by 2026.
The 2018 Victorian Election is a critical opportunity to grow the tourism industry and the visitor economy.
Partnering with industry, Government can unlock the enormous potential of the visitor economy and place tourism at the heart of Victoria’s economic agenda. The industry is poised for unprecedented growth, but requires Government to pull the necessary levers that will create the environment needed to support this potential.
Recognising this reality, the peak body for Victoria’s tourism and events industry, the Victoria Tourism Industry Council (VTIC), has developed Tourism is Victoria’s Business – a campaign to demonstrate to Government the actions needed to create jobs, support business, and grow the visitor economy.
With over 1,400 members representing more than 2,000 businesses, VTIC is the leading advocacy body for tourism and events in Victoria.
